She was predeceased by her parents, James and Louisa, brother George and two sisters, Margaret (Marj) and Elizabeth (Betty). Joyce is survived by numerous special cousins, with whom she has had a very close family relationship, and nephews and nieces. Joyce retired from the Canadian Wheat Board in 1986 following a 40 year career with the Company. She made many wonderful friends during those years and with neighbours, which she cherished until her death. Her greatest pleasures were spent with her special families and friends and her love of animals and the outdoors. If friends desire, donations may be made to a charity of your choice. Following cremation, a memorial service and reception will be held in the Thomson Funeral Home, 669 Broadway on Friday, January 13 at 2:00 p.m.with Rev. Phil Barnett officiating. Joseph was a planter in 1861, per Church of England baptism records quoted in AWJE.
Joseph owned the schooner Trial, built in Halls Bay in 1862 and lost at sea in Labrador in 1865. He owned the schooner Bee, built in Herring Neck in 1872 and lost at sea at Triton Island in 1878. He also owned the schooner Mary, built in Herring Neck in 1882 and lost at sea at Cape John in 1892.
Per The Twillingate Sun, the Lady Blandford, Mr. Joseph Blandford of Herring Neck, master, returned to port in 1884 from the Labrador with 200 quintals of fish.
A Joseph Blandford was an elector in Herring Neck in 1895; it could have been this Joseph or his son.
Joseph donated 1 pound, 10 shillings to the Church Society in 1849. He donated a quinatl of fish in 1848-49, and lived in Salt Harbour. He donated 10 shillings in 1871.

Arch Blandford who fell into the cellar in his home at Fleming Street, St. John's and sustained injuries which caused his death, was a som of the late Esau and Selina Blandford of Herring Neck. He was 70 years of age. In 1900 he was mate on the Clyde and later transferred to other Bay boats of the Reid Nfld. Co., lastly he commanded the Glencoe on the S.W. Coast for some years, untul about two years ago his son Max took command. The sad feature of the passing of Capt. Blandford is when he by mistake opened the door leading into the basement, instead of a door leading into the hallway, and no doubt in a bit of a hurry he stepped forward, falling to the bottom without any chance of saving himself. He never regained consciousness even after being taken to Soutcott Hospital where he died.1,4 |

The Glencoe's official number was 111142. The ship and a fore and aft schooner rig with a length of 208 feet, breadth of 30 feet and a depth of 19 feet. The engine's normal horsepower was rated as 185 with an indicated horsepower of 1100 which allowed a maximum speed of 12 knots. The vessel's gross tonnage was 767 toms and net tonnage was 336 tons. Archibald signed on as Master of the Glencoe 8 times, the datd being: January 20, 1909, May 8, 1911, February 21, 1912, January 23, 1917, February 1, 1919, July 13, 1920, May 21, 1921 and October 9, 1925. His son, Maxwell, signed on as Master October 19, 1928, April 23, 1929 and February 16, 1931. |
